Um, Christian Books?

Is it just me or has Thomas Nelson had a publishing dump of bad books? Like not bad bad, but odd and very un-Christlike?

Summer By The Tides, where only two of the five or six guys any of the women had cared for didn’t cheat on them? All throughout their relationships too.

The Tuscany Hotel I would have almost been all right with the myths but a girl forgetting all of her memories and remembering when she was barely weeks old and having memories that ‘don’t belong to me’ like Michelangelo was painting Sistine chapels. Yeah, not creepy, odd, bothersome or anything, not at . . . ALL.

How exactly is either honoring to God?

We as Christians are supposed to follow Philippians 4:8 (Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. KJV), how do either of these books do so? Sure, they could have redeemable content but to be so filled with things that contradict a Christian lifestyle should a Christian publisher let them be published? The Tuscany Hotel wasn’t even set in a fantasy time/land it was set after WWII and in America, it could have been almost OK (though I don’t believe so) if it was fantasy.

End of rant . . . Do you agree or disagree?

I will try and make sense in this comment, promise. Haha. I believe you can have terrible things in your books, and your heroine/hero overcoming those things. Of course, the “terrible things” should be monitored according to the crowd. It would depend on the problem according to the audience. I, in my books, have no cheating. I do have death, cheating in school, school problems, bullies, depression, guilt, and lying. It’s almost more kid-friendly. It’s all about overcoming problems, not living in them; and you can sin, just don’t make it a lifestyle. And I think that can be shown in books.

  Yes, I agree! Some of my characters do sinful things (like bullying and bad family relationships from actions of characters, among other things some of which you mentioned.). I agree with you 100% but these books haven’t really shown that the things I mentioned were sinful, they showed them without showing that there are consequences for actions.
