To kick off the Five Fall Favorites we’re talking about VINTAGE books, I personally was drawing a blank on what vintage books to do, I don’t read many vintage books after all, but after talking with my mom I got quite the list starting with…

Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

This beloved book by E. B. White, author of Stuart Little and The Trumpet of the Swan, is a classic of children’s literature that is “just about perfect.” This high-quality paperback features vibrant illustrations colorized by Rosemary Wells!

Some Pig. Humble. Radiant. These are the words in Charlotte’s Web, high up in Zuckerman’s barn. Charlotte’s spiderweb tells of her feelings for a little pig named Wilbur, who simply wants a friend. They also express the love of a girl named Fern, who saved Wilbur’s life when he was born the runt of his litter.

E. B. White’s Newbery Honor Book is a tender novel of friendship, love, life, and death that will continue to be enjoyed by generations to come. This edition contains newly color illustrations by Garth Williams, the acclaimed illustrator of E. B. White’s Stuart Little and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series, among many other books.

My Thoughts

I have read (and watched) this so many times with my siblings and Mom, it has always been a family favorite, ever since I was little.

All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor

It’s the turn of the century in New York’s Lower East Side and a sense of adventure and excitement abounds for five young sisters – Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte and Gertie. Follow along as they search for hidden buttons while dusting Mama’s front parlor, or explore the basement warehouse of Papa’s peddler’s shop on rainy days. The five girls enjoy doing everything together, especially when it involves holidays and surprises. But no one could have prepared them for the biggest surprise of all!

My Thoughts

This series was so absolutely wonderful and I think I reread it three or four times in one year when I read them in my pre-teens. I actually want to reread them even though I’m now eighteen.

The Dying Detective by Arthur Conan Doyle

“The Adventure of the Dying Detective”, in some editions simply titled “The Dying Detective”, is one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Together with seven other stories, it was collected in His Last Bow.

My Thoughts

I’ve reread this several times and still enjoy it. Better then the shows too… And I enjoyed those though I didn’t like all of the creepiness.

Five Little Peppers by Margaret Sidney

Including Every Title From Margaret Sidney’s Much-Loved Series
Margaret Sidney’s wonderful tales of the Pepper family growing up together in the ‘Little Brown House” have charmed readers of all ages for many decades. My Thoughts

I read these quite a while ago, they were cute, with adorable characters and funny antics. I loved the stories and recommend them to readers as young as five as a family read. (Because under five they are likely to prefer picture books.)

Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes

Meet the marvelous Pyes—
     There is Mrs. Pye, the youngest mother in town;
     Mr. Pye, a famous bird man, who handles all the nation’s important bird problems;
     Rachel Pye, who is so reasonable she can make unreasonable ideas sound like good ones;
     Jerry Pye, who knows about rocks of all sorts and plans to grow up to be a rock man;
     Uncle Bennie, who is Jerry and Rachel’s uncle—even though he’s only three years old.
     Lastly is Ginger Pye, the “intellectual dog,” who Jerry bought for a hard-earned dollar. The most famous pup in all of Cranbury, Ginger knows tons of tricks, is as loyal as he is smart, and steals the hearts of everyone he meets . . . until someone steals him!

My Thoughts

This is still one of my favorite books ever! I loved reading it over and over and over, I highly recommend it for any and every reader.

Well, that’s all for today! Don’t forget to come back each day this week for a new post!!!
