ABOUT THE BOOK
A kidnapped princess, a promise, and a kingdom cursed with mysterious plagues.
“Mark my words, Evangeline; if you set foot outside this tower, you will surely die.”
Evangeline has spent her entire life hidden in an ancient watchtower, gazing out a window as the world passes her by. She heeds her mother’s warning closely, the truth hidden from her always.
When a young guard stumbles upon the tower, Evangeline’s life is changed forever. As she strikes up a secret friendship with the guard, she learns about the Kingdom of Lanaria and the mysterious plagues that haunt all who live there. But as she delves into the world she barely knows, not everything her mother says adds up. Will they find the truth before it’s too late?
Content Warning: Mild violence and light romance (Only one or two kisses). A bit of witchcraft and witchhunts are also mentioned in the novel (main villains), but not glorified.
Evangeline, your name is written in Destiny.
How can you believe anything else, and how can you not be bursting with joy over the power this will bring you? Mother took a candle from the table, dripped wax along the rough overlapped edges of the section from which she‘d just read, then sealed it off again.
She leveled Evangeline with a stare that expected an answer.
Evangeline tried to swallow, but couldn‘t. Lord, will I burn for lying to her? Forgive me. “I will take my duty more seriously, Mother.” But God, can‟t You protect me so I don‟t have to do this? I don‟t believe in the destiny she speaks of. I don’t believe You do either, because Your Word speaks against it. I‟ve read so.
“Prove it.” Mother set the book down in front of Evangeline and strode off. Evangeline watched her take a candle to her bedchambers, where she firmly tucked the curtains closed and left Evangeline alone.
