Writerly Sibling Tag!

I was tagged to do the Writerly Sibling Tag twice and I am finally doing it now that I’m working on my WIP with siblings!

Rules:

Rule One: Thank the blogger who tagged you & provide a link to their post.

Thank you, Libby and Martha! (I linked to their posts in their names.)

Rule Two: Answer the inquires, including any ones added by means of rule six.

Rule Three: Always use your own characters. No exception, unless you don’t actually have sibling characters (in which case you need to go write up some) or you don’t write (in which case you need to start ASAP).

Rule Four: Tag three other bloggers.

I tag Ry, Mary, and Abigail!

Rule Five: If you happen to have any siblings who blog, they are automatically tagged & cannot count towards your three.

Rule Six: Add one question or prompt to the list of questions the person before you answered relating to siblings &/or characters. Answer the question, and provide a list of all the questions of that you answered so far.

Rule Seven: Close out the post making a statement glorifying the King of kings.

Name the most annoying sibling character in any of your stories (either annoying to you as the author or to any other characters).

That would be “Day” whose name is not going to be revealed quite yet as that would be a huge spoiler for my WIP.

Name the most caring sibling character in any of your stories.

Hmmm, the most caring sibling that get annoying is Memphis with his tendency to poke his nose where it isn’t wanted. The most caring sibling otherwise is Paris, she’s the young and perky sister who tries to make sure everybody is doing well and kinda the glue of the family at times or Tyler who is a brother and brother-in-law to two man characters, he’s the wise loving brother who doesn’t preach at his siblings even though he’s the preacher.

Name the most entertaining sibling character in any of your stories.

Hmmm, this is a hard one! Or if I’m honest ‘Lando is the brother always saying something that isn’t wrong but it is at the wrong time and he’s kind of a mix of sarcastic and serious but comes off in a way that it could be either he’s also the main trouble maker.

Name a sibling character who was inspired in some way by an actual sibling.

That would be Frisco, well, okay, his annoying his siblings on propuse is inspired by my brother whom I love but can be the most annoying person in the world! 😉

Name the largest character family (talking family, not family tree) in any of your stories.

In my stories that I am or am likely to publish that would be the Francisco family with 14 siblings.

Provide one to three excerpts from your sibling characters’ dialog from any of your stories.

  1. An excerpt of sister and brother!

Paris jerked, face flying up and she shrieked when she saw him while still trying to catch the bag and books while still sliding her door shut. As they dropped to the floor she looked up, catching sight of Frisco she scowled, “You big bully! You shouldn’t scare a person like that. Memphis didn’t mention you were home let alone home!”

Frisco shrugged, scooping up the dropped pencil bag and notebooks, “We talked until after one in the morning, kid, you think he is awake enough to remember to tell you that the black sheep is home?”

2. An excerpt of brothers-in-arms!

Memphis hurried from the barn, he saw Frisco and detoured toward his brother instead of his truck. “I know the one guy doesn’t look like much but his buddy says he needs a job badly and he’ll keep an eye on him.”

Shaking his head at his brother’s assumption that he only disliked the look of the guy he stomped past Memphis as he shut the truck door, he growled at the young man his oldest brother was hiring, “You really are senseless! I thought for sure you were smart enough to not show up with him.” He jerked his head toward the shaggily dressed man.

“Now, Sarge, he needs to tell you somethings face to face, and your family is looking for workers, right? Win-win? Right…”

3. An excerpt of brothers-in-law about the sister/wife of them.

Tyler gave a half chuckle half sigh, “Fine, fine, but no fighting with my sister. Got it?”

“Me fight? Wow, how could you even…” Frisco laughed as the call suddenly cut off with a grabbled knock it off from Tyler.

Name three published books which have an amazing portrayal of siblings or family.

Jaye L. Knight’s Ilyon Chronicles, Lynette Eason’s Blue Justice series, and Chautona Havig’s Aggie’s Inheritance series.

Name another author’s character family that you wouldn’t mind jumping into.

Un, none? I wouldn’t mind temporarily joining most book families but most of my favorite families in books have way too much stuff happen to them. 😉

Provide an excerpt of sibling drama or camaraderie from any title (though be sure to credit it).

I’m just going with my WIP because I can’t think of any off the top of my head right now. The characters are brothers, brothers-in-law, and brothers-in-arms, I’d love to hear which you think are which?! 😉 (I of course removed anything that would give away which is which.)

Sean saw Frisco looking at his shoes and glared, “Turns out someone else has the same sense of humor as you do and they misplaced my normal shoes.”

Burns smirked as Frisco’s eyes shot to him, “Sometimes he needs put in his place.”

“Sometimes? If he’s not put in his place at least daily he gets a big head and thinks he knows everything, make sure to do it some more, would you?” Frisco set to doing some stretches as Tyler and Memphis finished their conversation.

“So, Tyler, do you prefer the Army or the Air Force?” Memphis baited, straight faced as he bent to retie a shoelace that had loosened.

With a grin toward his brother, Frisco answered while Tyler just stood there with his mouth open a fraction, “Neither, he’s a Navy boy.”

Memphis jerked up so fast his hair caught in his face, “You what?”

Tyler shook his head, “Frisco, when will you ever not try to get me dragged into those silly arguments that our family seems so fond of?”

“Never!” Frisco said, heart lightening at being around men, his brothers, the ones he could trust.

Burns looked on with an unexplainable look and asked, “Do you plan on chattering like a bunch of ducks or are we going for a run?”

Name two characters from two unrelated books that you feel would make for great literary siblings (whether in terms of getting along, or being a constant head-to-head combat).

My friend Katja’s Orlando and my own Orlando, okay, that is not all a joke but Kats’ character is an amazing brother and my character is not always kind due to distrust of most people but he will always have his siblings’ backs like Kats’ character… Most of the time that is since sometimes ‘Lando’d be glad to never see his siblings again. (Since I know you’ll see this post I’m asking if you agree, Katja?)

What sibling trope would you like to write in the future?

The one I’m writing! The black sheep brother getting saved and coming home to his family!

Which of your own sibling groups would you love to join?

Umm, Danny’s, she and her brother are some of my characters that haven’t seen as much hardship until they get a story, that is and they have a country life style that I love.

If you could adopt only one of your fictional siblings as your own sibling, who would it be?

Frisco, just not as a kid, yikes!

What fictional character most reminds you of yourself as a sibling?

Umm, none? I seriously have no idea that any of them remind me as myself as I’ve kinda given them all a lot of drama.

Have you written any sibling dialogue based on a dialogue you had with your own siblings? If so, share it!

Not really, like I’ll get idea from past converstaions with my siblings but nothing stays the same in my writing of it.

What is one lesson from fiction about siblings that you’ve made an active duty of applying in your own sibling relationships?

I haven’t done any really, I have done lessons through my stories that I have gone through but not with my siblings.

Time to pick favorites; which of your sibling families is your favorite?

Totally cheating since it means all in one because of them in-laws I say the Francisco family.

Out of all the sibling friendships you’ve read/written, which sibling duo has the most mismatched personalities?

Mismatched in my writing would be “Kam” and “Day” whose nicknames are being used, Day is the loud type and when angry will likely punch the person’s face… repeatedly… And Kam is quiet and he’s been saved since he was ten and he’s always praying for his brother who is the only one to ever anger him.

I am supposed to leave a statement that brings glory to God but I all I can say is that He has us in His hands and our stories are in His hands not our own.

So, what did you think?! Did you like this post? I am going to be doing a tag every month from now on, I expect so I hope you like tags!
